Ashlyn Delaney is no stranger to testing out beauty products. Her role as Hypebae’s social media editor means endless reviews and trials and errors of various skincare, hair, and body products. Her sensitive skin, however, requires her to find brands that work — and fast. As a Black woman creator, it’s crucial she helps audiences of all races, sizes, and genders find products for them. The Detroit-born, New York City-based content creator gives 1202 MAGAZINE a glimpse of the secrets behind her flawless skin.

“Beauty projects from the inside out,” Delaney says. “That’s what makes it unique. From my mental health to physical health, it all has to be beautiful.”

Andalous Naturals: Sensitive 1000 Roses Cleansing Foam

“One time I went to Jamaica and got a mild skin rash on my forehead, it was really a connect-the-dots moment,” Delaney says. “1000 Roses really did its big one and it cleared up in two days. I never went back. I was 16, now I’m 25.”

Versed: The Purist Antioxidant Cleanser

“It’s so gentle and has no smell…literally no smell,” Delaney says. “That’s when I knew.”

Honey Girl Organics: Super Skin Food

As an everyday moisturizer: “It melts like butter on the skin,” she says. “When you cool it and directly apply it, it’s something I actually look forward to every day.”

Nicka K New York: Lip Gel

“Call me dramatic. I can’t live without a real glass lip,” Delaney says. “My local beauty store has the 1.99 NK lip gloss right at the front waiting for me.”

Hourglass: Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray

“My ride-or-die product will always be the Hourglass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray,” she says. “For a natural, dewy look, this melts makeup into the skin.”
