The energy was high (literally) at Williamsburg’s popular venue, Bogart House. Overlooking Brooklyn into the Manhattan skyline may have been a clear night, but the smoke left the air hazy. DJ Odalys and Move Forward Music created Beloved, a party series highlighting different artists and DJs.

On April 20, also known as 4/20, the holiday for chronic weed smokers, Beloved brought a jam-packed lineup in only a few hours. In the main room were DJ sets from Dick by Air and Odalys. On the windy yet smoke-filled rooftop were DJ sets from Dana Lu and Dada Cozmic. There were also live performances from Sister Nancy, Chow Lee, SpliffHappy, and B Jack$ throughout the night. People sang along to every artist — lyric for lyric — bar for bar.

The wind was against us. Although smoking was prohibited inside, it didn’t stop anyone. It was too windy to light one up outside, so the venue unsuccessfully attempted to get everyone onto the rooftop to smoke. But what fun is there in listening to your favorite artists live without a spliff in hand? With each performance, the crowd got more lit, making it difficult to get the crowd to leave—nobody wanted to stop dancing.

The end of the party was far from the end of the night for most of the performers and eventgoers. Everyone was still lit — scrambling to find Chow Lee’s afterparty and places to fulfill their munchies. If you missed the 420 party, don’t have too much FOMO. Beloved is only getting started with many more events on the horizon.
