Cochise Embraces New Era with ‘4AM’ Single
Entering a new era, Florida rapper Cochise released his new single “4AM” on Friday, alongside a music video. Clocking in at just under two minutes, “4AM” is a vibrant sprint marked by bright synths and the kind of colorful, deep-cut bars (“Make money every week/I walk in with my pistol on my hip/They think I’m Pete”), that the rapper is known for.
The Palm Bay native characterized by his kaleidoscopic sound that blends elements of Jamaican dancehall, hip-hop, and trap, with animated lyricism punctuated by deep-cut references to anime, sports, and pop culture and over four million Spotify monthly listeners – Cochise has proven to be an eclectic artist, injecting the slick adlibs of peak 2010s SoundCloud rap with a sugar rush flow that sounds like FL Studio overloading.
That sound brought him to prominence, leading to viral singles such as “Pocket Pocket,” the RIAA Certified Gold hit “Hatchback” [racking 400M+ Streams], and 2021’s hit “Tell Em” (feat. $NOT) [with over 1B Streams]. Finding major success in the highly competitive and talented Florida rap scene inspired Cochise to expand on his sound, showing all sides of his multifaceted artistry. He has since toured with Amine, sold out a solo headlining world tour, and collaborated with the likes of Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, Denzel Curry, Juicy J, Teezo Touchdown, Lil B, and more.
With “4AM” coming on the heels of a strong run of 2024 singles that include “YOSHIMITSU,” “GEEKED,” “LAY UP,” and “HILARIOUS,” a collab with $NOT – all of which have seen him slow down his flow, making cloud rap-inspired tracks that add a calming haze to the backdrop of his colorful world. Now, the 2022 XXL Freshman is treating the next stage of his career as a metamorphosis, mixing the sound that made him with a more measured approach to continue building on his already expansive lore.
