Atlanta-based indie artist Neila released her latest EP, SCARS, which is now out on music streaming platforms. A music prodigy taking on influence from artists like Frank Ocean to icons like Janet Jackson, the South Florida native is an introspective extrovert who pens songs for “all the neon green crayons in a box full of grey ones.” The world-bending singer/songwriter is reaching undiscovered planets through her artistry, as attested to by her previous releases such as What’s Your Sign? (2020), Almost Had (2022), and last year’s Bite Me – [she] has much to uncover about, for starters, her stage name, Neila – which is alienly spelled backward.

In SCARS, Neila infused her unequivocally corky and relatable mix of R&B and Pop for a new age genre of R&Pop. Unfolded in stages, with a new single dropping every month, Neila shared pieces of her soul as heard in her most recent release, “Cut” ft. Ben Reilly, which sums up the entire ‘aesthetic’ of the SCARS EP. According to her, “Cut” delves into the raw pain of being hurt by someone you love, capturing that visceral feeling of endless heartache,” with Reilly’s verse offering “a chilling perspective from the other side of the heartbreak and exploring the complex emotions of the person who experiences you after this unhealed pain.”

Neila further described the EP as “a journey exploring themes of love, betrayal, heartbreak, and ultimately, rediscovering your own inner strength. The scars we carry are the marks left by life’s experiences – the people, places, and situations that shape us,” reemphasizing her desire to make her audience feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Supported by other singles such as “Score” featuring PHABO and “Needle and Thread” ft. Dende – the five-track project encompasses records infused with ‘self-acceptance, confidence, independence and what it feels like to walk through life with a little extra glitter running through your veins’ – creating a soundtrack for the journeys of self-love.

From your headphones to your TV screens, you may have seen her at home on your television, starring in Sprite’s “Quench your thirst” campaign or photographed in a Nike store near you. Her parting shot, “Neila is a superstar, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of this otherworldly alien!”
