Sufjan Stevens: “Javelin”

Javelin goes deep into Stevens’ personal life — the good and bad.

On Oct. 6, Detroit-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens dedicated his newest album Javelin to his late partner Evan Richardson IV who died in April. He was the chief of staff at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York. Stevens gets intimate and personal on his acoustic guitar with songs like Will Anybody Ever Love Me? and Javelin (To Have And To Hold).

Stevens and Richardson attended the 2018 Academy Awards together. Here, Stevens performed his heartfelt song Mystery of Love. For years, Stevens has used Tumblr as a platform to share intimate messages — one being his announcement of treatment for his Guillain-Barré syndrome.
