We Can’t Live Without the Theophilio x Warby Parker Sunglasses

Each style represents Edvin Thompson’s Jamaican roots.

Luxury brand Theophilio and eyewear brand Warby Parker have joined forces to create the Shaunie sunglasses, a timeless, limited-edition sun frame. Edvin Thompson, the founder of Theophilio, envisioned his Jamaican roots in a four-colorway series: Shade, Lemon Slice, Sorrel, and the exclusive Black Fashion Fair colorway, Soursop.

Warby Parker experimented with a first-time technique of laminating opaque acetate over a translucent material for a multidimensional effect. Shade is the charcoal colorway, Lemon Slice has a yellow frame with red arms, Sorrel is a gradient red-to-clear frame with dark green arms, and Soursop is translucent green with tortoiseshell arms.

“These sunglasses are like a memoir for me,” Thompson says. “I see my adolescence and my parents in them, but I also see the shape of things still to come. This collaboration is all about where I’m coming from as a designer and where I’m going next.”

Thompson and Warby Parker were first introduced to one another at Black Fashion Fair’s debut issue, Volume 0. Their goal has always been to uplift Black designers and give them a platform. Today, they kept their promise, continue collaborating, and empower countless Black designers and those in the fashion industry.

The Shaunie sunglasses start at $145. If you want to wear timeless frames representing Thompson’s childhood memories and nostalgia, you can shop at warbyparker.com/theophilio and blackfashionfair.org for the Soursop colorway.
